New Orleans Mission Family Center

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana

Client: New Orleans Mission

Status: Complete // LEED NC Silver

The New Orleans Family Center is one of three buildings of the New Orleans Rescue Mission; the 4,400 square foot center includes 32 beds and provides stays for up to 18 months. The project was initially planned in 2004 as a design-studio project for Tulane University School of Architecture students however efforts were halted after Hurricane Katrina. The relaunch of the project included non-profit organizations including Habitat for Humanity and HomeAid. Completed in 2007 the facility became the first building to achieve LEED certification in the City of New Orleans. The facility includes a range of sustainable features including a geothermal HVAC system, tankless water heaters, strategic glazing to minimize sun exposure and stack ventilation.

Breeze Glazer led the design team and supervised construction in addition to LEED efforts for the building, prior to LeapStep.
