MASTER PLAN

Sustainable Village Learning Community

Location: Archaie, Haiti

Client: Adaptiv

Status: Complete

The Sustainable Village Learning Community (SVLC) aspires to be a model for sustainable community development and is the result of an innovative collaboration between five not-for-profit organizations and ten State University of New York (SUNY) campuses. The campus will include a vocational and technical training school, a health center, a hospitality and culinary arts center and a community center. Recently the master plan for phase one of the development was completed.

Adaptiv, an innovative not-for-profit design firm, is leading the project and engaged LeapStep to provide sustainable design and engineering services. The intent is to support the campus development in reflecting its mission, aspirations, and long-term operational goals. With an inconsistent utility grid, high performance design in Haiti presents a unique opportunity to leverage the natural assets of the region while enhancing  the health and wellbeing of the community. The master plan considers a range of sustainable design strategies including on-site renewable energy generation and water harvest and reuse.
