Study

University of California Office of the President Study

The University of California is a system of 10 campuses, five medical centers and three affiliated national laboratories. The Office of the President, located in Oakland, CA, is the University’s headquarters and it supports campuses and students through systemwide funding and programs. As the UC Health Systems grow and renovate their facilities over time, it has become clear that their buildings have a timely opportunity to improve performance with respect to energy and carbon emissions.

LeapStep has been working with UC Davis Health to support their carbon neutrality goals. For this project, we are performing research and analysis to investigate and inform updates to the UC Sustainable Practices Policy (UCSPP) and UCDHealth guidelines for energy use and carbon emissions targets for future projects. We are addressing questions such as “What are the appropriate improvements to the medical center performance targets that should be considered for the UCSPP updates?” and “What are the cost (including life-cycle costs) impacts of increasing the energy performance targets in the UCSPP?”.
