Resilient Housing Technical Assistance in The Maldives

Location: The Maldives

Client: Build Change & The World Bank

Status: In Progress

The Maldives is home to more than half a million people; spread across 26 atolls in the Indian Ocean about 750 kilometers southwest of India. The country is uniquely exposed to climate change and meteorological hazards including flood, storm surge and tsunamis. Concurrently it faces a myriad of socio-economic challenges in the housing market, exacerbated by its dispersed geography and related supply chain and import challenges.

The Resilience Housing Technical Assistance in the Maldives project is being funded and managed by The World Bank and being led by Build Change in collaboration with LeapStep and Riyan. The objective is to improve the sustainability and resilience of the affordable housing sector in the Maldives. This will be achieved by strengthening capacity and increasing the knowledge base of the Maldivian design, engineering and construction communities while concurrently accelerating consumer engagement and interest. We’re also providing technical assistance to the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and key stakeholders in the region.
