The California Tower

Location: Sacramento, CA

Client: UC Davis Health

Status: In Progress

UC Davis Health is constructing a 600,000- to 800,000-gross-square-foot Hospital Bed Replacement Tower project. The project will provide a state-of-the-art hospital facility with both intensive care unit and medical surgical patient beds as well as an interventional platform that supports new surgical techniques and technologies. The facility will be designed to maximize operational efficiency and include the flexibility to accommodate future healthcare technologies. The proposed site is located on the east end of the existing hospital, adjacent to the Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion that houses primarily surgery, intensive care units, the burn unit, and the emergency department.

LeapStep is serving on behalf of the owner and supporting the integrated planning team led by SmithGroup. The intent is to ensure the building design achieves the sustainability requirements developed specifically for the RHT, in addition to the UC system-wide sustainability and carbon neutrality goals.
